The Siamese cat changed and developed rapidly during the 20th century, to the extent that today’s specimens differ significantly from those that were imported during the 1800s. The head has become elongated and the body lean and svelte. But one overarching characteristic has remained the same: the colouring.

The Siamese coat displays a distinctive point colouration. This is another way of saying that its coat features a light-coloured background with darker points on the ears, legs, mask and tail. A variety of point colourations are possible, but the pattern remains the same.

Its colouring is, perhaps, the most distinctive characteristic of the Siamese, but there are other, subtler personality traits worth noting as well. This is one of the most vocal cat breeds available, and they’re quick to inform their owners in no uncertain terms that they require food or attention. They’re also remarkably social and playful – even as adults.
